UCSI College partners SACE to offer the Australian programme

KUALA LUMPUR, October 15 – UCSI College has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) Board of South Australia to offer the SACE International pre-university programme in its campus here.
UCSI College chief executive Associate Professor Dr Mabel Tan said she was proud of the partnership, adding that the college expects the first batch of SACE graduates in November, next year.
“I am very pleased that we can offer the SACE International programme, starting with this September 2019 intake,” she said after signing the MoA on October 11.
“We are confident that we can capture a sizeable market as we have a large youth population in our vicinity. Other centres that offer the SACE International programme are located 20 kilometres away,” she added.
By launching the programme, Tan said it had brought the college a step closer to its vision in becoming a leading college renowned for its leadership in academic pursuits and engagement with the industry and the community.
SACE International programme director Cathy Schultz, in her speech, said the programme is relevant and imperative in shaping young minds to be innovative while mastering the knowledge required before pursuing their next step in their studies.
“We don’t know what the future is going to look like so the young people will need to develop their creativity to be able to transfer their knowledge to non-routine, complex and unfamiliar problems. This is the core of SACE,” she said.
Schultz explained that SACE subjects, like the Research Project, ensured students look into various areas of study such as science, mathematics, history, drama and filmmaking.
“I am pleased that we can offer this programme through this partnership with UCSI College,” she said.
Others present at the signing ceremony include UCSI College Board of Governors Chairman, Dato’ Peter Ng, UCSI College Vice-President of Academic Affairs, Associate Professor Dr Chong Aik Lee, Australian Trade and Investment Commission (AUSTRADE) representatives Srii Gunaseelan and Adil Akbar, and SACE coordinator at UCSI College, Lee Pek Fun.
SACE International is a globally recognised pre-university programme that awards students the South Australian Certificate of Education and provides entry into the world’s top universities. It is the official senior secondary qualification of the South Australian Government, equivalent to the UK A-Levels and our Malaysian STPM.
Since its introduction, more than 40,000 students have graduated from the SACE International program across the Asia-Pacific region. In 2018, SACE students were the first students in Australia to sit online examinations as part of a senior secondary qualification.
